Being it is hard, but it is even harder when you can't get what you want for being so. Last month, I got tired of looking for a navy t-shirt. I visited, literally, every single men shop in town; walked through every mall; asked every shop assistant... the result: NOTHING! I was already sure that I wouldn't get it; but then, the miracle happened: white with black stripes, round necked, hanging from the clothes hanger. My body suddenly quivered: it was like love at first sight. I entered the shop and tried it on; it was perfect. Immediately, I went to the display and paid for it. I was very satisfied.

I’ve probably walked a hundred kilometres; spend hundreds of hours and many litres of saliva for asking everybody where to find a navy t-shirt. I want to help you saving time, so I’ll show a list of shops that may have what you need this season to be it.

Es difícil ser it, pero es todavía más difícil cuando no podés encontrar lo que necesitas para serlo. El mes pasado, me cansé de buscar una remera tipo navy. Fui, literalmente, a cada local de ropa de hombre, recorrí cada shopping, le pregunté a cada vendedor… el resultado: ¡NADA! Cuando ya estaba convencido de que no iba a conseguirla, sucedió el milagro: colgaba del perchero, era blanca con rayas negras, de cuello redondo. De repente sentí un escalofrío: fue como amor a primera vista. Entré al negocio y me la probé: me quedaba perfecta. Después me dirigí al mostrador y la pagué. Estaba satisfecho.

Probablemente caminé cien kilómetros, perdí cientos de horas y muchos litros de saliva de tanto preguntar dónde encontrar una remera estilo marinero. Como Quieres Que Te Quiera

"interior" point of view / punto de vista "interior"

Tendencies do not involve just clothing, as I said in my first post of mendoza it. Tendencies also concern art, design and good taste when decorating any place. That is why I talked to Melisa Millán. She is a very young interior designer whose mind is full of innovative ideas. Melisa graduated this year and she is about to get her bachelor’s degree. Despite the fact that she is only 23 years-old, she has had her own art exhibition and designed Los Toneles winery interiors, among many other works.

As a professional, she will explain you in this interview the it aspects of interior design here in Mendoza and some tendencies of herself.

Which are the tendencies as to interior design in Mendoza?

What is to come for 2011 is:

1. Ecological design. This is so because of the current concern about environmental issues.
2. Vintage designs.
3. As for colors, metallic, nude (as it happens with clothes), and intense shining colors.
4. Minimalist and contemporary classic tendencies.
5. LED lighting.
6. In the case of international avant-garde, pixel like textile is the new it issue.

Could it be that some Mendoza’s interior designs are not that far from Northern countries?

Of course, there are sites with a very good design. For example, there are places of extraordinary beauty and full of history such as hotels (Cacheuta, Diplomatic, Intercontinental), elegant restaurants (Hyatt) and ancient wineries (Salentein, Los Toneles, Chandon).

Is it possible to redesign a place without much money? Which are the disadvantages of this?

It is not necessary to spend a fortune to improve a place; obviously, good taste depends on the designer’s creativity. Until now, I have had to work with average budgets and, somehow, I have found resources that made the space look even better than I had planned. As for disadvantages, I think there aren’t if one has a positive attitude and looks for more creative alternatives.

Which are your tendencies? Do you have any own trade?

I do have my own trade; I like to fuse art with interior design. As I am an artist, my paintings give the space a particular touch. Besides, I work with a lot of materials: fabrics in every colors and designs and different shaped vinyl stickers (flowers, arabesques, animals). I love to combine styles, such as modern with antique, Oriental with Occidental, industrial with handmade, etc. I also like to combine materials such as crystal, aluminium, leather, Indian sequins and teardrops.

Are you working in any project right now? Which one?

I’m working in a gallery for exhibiting works of art. The aim of it is to attract Mendocinian artists and let them exhibit their works (paintings, sculptures, artistic objects) in a place that, besides design, it will offer wine tasting, music and a suitable illumination. Of course, if the client wants to, private events could be done to.

Las tendencias no están relacionadas sólo con ropa e indumentaria, como dije en el primer posteo de mendoza it. Las tendencias también tienen que ver con el arte, el diseño y el buen gusto al momento de decorar un espacio. Es por eso que hablé con Melisa Millán. Es una diseñadora de interiores muy joven, con una mente repleta de ideas innovadoras. Melisa se egresó este año y pronto recibirá el título de Licenciada. A pesar de que sólo tiene 22 años, ya ha realizado su propia muestra de arte y ha decorado los interiores de las bodega Los Toneles, entre muchos otros trabajos.

Como experta en el tema, nos explicará cuáles son los aspectos it a tener en cuenta para el diseño de interiores aquí en Mendoza y algunas de sus propias tendencias.

¿Cuáles son las tendencias en cuanto a diseño de interiores aquí en Mendoza?

Lo que se viene para el 2011 es:

1. El diseño ecológico debido a la situación actual preocupante del medio ambiente.

2. Los diseños “vintage”.

3. En cuanto a color, se vienen los metálicos, los nude (como pasa con la ropa), los neutros coloridos y los colores con brillo intenso.

4. La tendencia minimalista y el clásico contemporáneo son las grandes apuestas.

5. Iluminación con LED.

6. Si hablamos de la vanguardia a nivel mundial, se ha implementado el concepto de “pixel” para textiles

¿Podría decirse que el diseño de algunos espacios mendocinos no tienen mucho que envidiarle al de países del Norte?

Obviamente, hay espacios muy lindos. Por ejemplo, Mendoza tiene muy lindos hoteles (Cacheuta, Diplomatic, Intercontinental), restaurantes elegantes (Hyatt) y bodegas con historia que poseen una belleza extraordinarian (Los Toneles, Salentein, Chandon).

¿Es posible reinventar un espacio con no mucho dinero? ¿Cuáles son las desventajas de esto?

Por supuesto, el buen diseño va en la creatividad del diseñador. No hace falta gastar fortunas para que un espacio se pueda mejorar. Hasta ahora, me ha tocado trabajar con presupuestos medios y, de alguna que otra forma, he descubierto recursos que hicieron que el espacio quede mucho mejor de lo que tenía planeado en mi mente. En cuanto a las desventajas, creo que no las hay si uno es positivo y busca alternativas más creativas.

¿Cuáles son tus tendencias? ¿Tenés alguna marca personal?

A mi me gusta mucho la fusión del arte con los interiores. Como soy artista, siempre mis obras le dan un toque especial a mis proyectos de interiorismo. Me gusta trabajar con muchos materiales, tales como textiles de todos colores y diseños, vinilos de corte en varios motivos (floreados, arabescos, animales). Además disfruto mucho la combinación, ya sea de estilos, como lo moderno con lo antiguo, lo oriental con lo occidental, lo industrial con lo artesanal; como también de las combinaciones de materiales (cristal, aluminio, cuero, lentejuelas hindúes, caireles).

¿Estás en algún proyecto actualmente? ¿Cuál?

En este momento, estoy creando una galería de arte para exposición de obras. La idea es que los artistas mendocinos puedan exponer sus obras (ya sean esculturas, pinturas, objetos) y que, además, se pueda disfrutar de degustaciones, buena música y una apropiada iluminación. Por supuesto, si alguien quisiera organizar eventos privados, también podrían realizarse.

A show with ups and downs / Una presentación con altibajos

Yesterday afternoon, my friend and I attended the show of Wanama’s new collection, that was held in Palmares Open Mall store. The show was supposed to start at 7:30 pm; anyway, to respect the Mendocinean tradition of doing everything later, it didn’t begin up to 8:30 pm. I know that sometimes there are some problems with organization or whatever, but I see it as something disrespectful and unprofessional.

There was another negative aspect of the show that I feel forced to tell. After one hour of being sit and doing nothing, my friend and I got tired of waiting some people who would talk about how to make a Wanama outfit; so we asked somebody if we could take some pictures of the new collection for the blog. We were told there was no problem. When we had taken only three pictures, a tall guy (I supposed the one in charge of the event) told us we couldn’t take pictures of the clothes (while other people had been doing so). Then, after underestimating my blog, he literally grabbed a hanger I was holding and put it violently in the clothes rack.

There’s no doubt he was completely rude and arrogant. Maybe, I do not know which the policies of the company are, but I do know about politeness. There are different ways of saying (or doing) something, but it seems he just learned the rude ones. Luckily, this guy won’t be there when you or I go shopping, because I think he’s capable of grabbing even your intention of buying something.

In spite of everything, the girls serving costumers were very kind! They asked you all the time if you wanted to try some clothes or if everything was all right.

About the clothes: I was left speechless. They were, as always, really good. For ladies, there were lingerie-like tank tops, long hippie skirts, military jackets and shirts, navy sweaters, clogs and peep-toe boots. As for men clothes, I got kind of upset when I realized that there were just a few items of the new collection.

Regarding the colors: blue, coral, and camouflage green were combined with nude and copper.

After being at Wanama, we went to (John) Cook, whose opening was last Wednesday. I liked the clothes very much… But, if you like things with a lot of design, that’s not the place you should go. The fabrics used were cotton and denim; so you may get a prêt-à-porter look.

Now, I’ll show the few pictures I could take in Wanama and the ones of Cook.

Ayer a la tarde, asistí con una amiga a la presentación de la nueva temporada de Wanama en el local del Palmares Open Mall. Supuestamente, el show empezaba a las 19:00 hs; pero para no faltarle el respeto a la costumbre mendocina de hacer las cosas más tarde de lo previsto, no empezó hasta las 20:30 hs. Sé que a veces surgen problemas de organización o cualquier otra cosa, pero yo lo veo como una falta de respeto y de profesionalidad.

Además, hubo otro aspecto negativo de la presentación que me siento obligado a contar. Después de haber estado sentados sin hacer nada por una hora, mi amiga y yo nos cansamos de esperar a un grupo de personas que iba a explicar cómo armar un outfit Wanama. Así que le preguntamos al personal si podíamos sacar algunas fotos para el blog. Nos dijeron que no había drama. Cuando habíamos sacado sólo tres fotos, se nos acercó un hombre alto (que supongo que estaba a cargo del evento) y nos dijo que no podíamos sacar fotos a la ropa (mientras que otra gente ya lo había estado haciendo). Entonces, después de subestimar mi blog, me arrebató literalmente la percha que tenía en la mano y la puso groseramente en el perchero.

No cabe duda de que fue totalmente maleducado y prepotente. Quizás yo no conozca las políticas de la empresa, pero sí sé de modales. Hay distintas maneras de decir (o hacer) las cosas, pero parece que este hombre sólo aprendió las incorrectas. Si tenemos suerte, cuando vayamos a comprar algo, él no va a estar, porque estoy seguro de que es capaz de arrebatarnos hasta las ganas de comprar.

A pesar de todo, las chicas que atendían fueron muy amables. Todo el tiempo te preguntaban si querías probarte o si necesitabas algo.

Con respecto a la ropa: sin palabras. Como siempre, muy buena. Para ellas, habían musculosas lenceras, faldas hippies largas, camperas y camisitas tipo militar, sweaters navy, suecos y botas boquita de pescado. Para hombres, fue bastante deprimente ver que habían traído solo algunos ítems de la nueva colección.

En colores: azul, coral y verde militar, combinados con nude y color cobre.

Después de Wanama, fuimos a (John) Cook, cuya apertura fue el miércoles pasado. La ropa me gustó mucho… Si estás buscando algo con mucho diseño, no te lo aconsejo. Pero sí vas a conseguir un buen look prêt-à-porter, ya que los materiales principales son algodón y denim.
